Most of today's legacy business
systems are missing functionality that is
now being performed manually or not at all. As an example, within the
CRM area, most of the systems don't have a good implementation of customer
self-service. CRM systems can be supplemented
with web based customer service add on software to provide these
functions. Instead of using a canned application to fill the gaps in the legacy systems, another way to solve the issues is to use a class of software called "workflow tools" that help define, create & automate those processes. Another problem with the legacy solutions is that they need to be interconnected to prevent "islands of information" from occurring. These workflow tools also contain technology to allow interconnection of business systems so the processes become seamless across legacy systems. The tool set brings together the modeling, integration and execution of business processes to almost any type of business need. The value proposition of these workflow tools is that they provide a quick deployment and flexible process that can be changed as part of the continuous cycle of improvement needed to create self-correcting business systems. List of manual processes that could be automated to improve tracking, prioritization, audit history, and management:
